Seven Away

I just finished a seven day break from social media -- particularly Twitter and Facebook. It was a nice break; and to be honest, I didn't much notice that I was away. I found that I was still thinking in Tweet format for the first few days, but recovered rather quickly.

Did I learn anything while I was away? Not a single thing. The point was made that it's difficult to learn about or change a medium that you are not using... so I am back. I hope to figure out new way to add value to the communities that I belong to. While I was told that I add entertainment value to the planet, it's not the type of value that I am aiming to add.

My question to myself is: what type of value do I want to add? I am still seeking that answer and suspect that I will slowly, but surely find it.

Social Media is an interesting thing and I think it's cool that you took a break. I often think about doing that, but not necessarily because I want to contribute more, but because I want to contribute less. Sometimes I feel I am too dependent on it and I can't decide if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

You're tweets aren't just entertaining, they're informative as well. You consistently promote local small businesses, inform people of local events, and on occasion allow us to see the creative process that goes into designing a website as you do it. And you do these things with humor and a clever use of language and medium. It's appreciated, not just for the entertainment, but for the information as well. Prior to "meeting" you on Twitter, my opinion (admittedly not from experience) of DTF was not very positive. Now I'm a huge fan and customer of many of the unique businesses that make up our city, and I know I'm not alone. So, because I don't think I've actually said it, thanks! And welcome back!

I have found meaning teaching at an inner city school... not saying it is for everyone but you could tutor or do Big Brothers/Big Sisters or have a kid of your own who will save the planet =).
