The Beat Goes On

Time is a wonderful unit of measure. It places each of us on the same continuum with common reference points. However, I've never felt it was proper measure for life. The body doesn't handle well as time wears away at it, but this is independent of life's duration.

I measure life in heart beats — not years. In my mind, this makes sense; for I have no idea, how many heart beats the average person has used at any given moment — nor how many they have remaining. We are all dealt the same volume; nor, do we use them at the same pace. I may only have 39 beats remaining and be 26, 52 or 91 years along. I don't know, and I feel no need to know. I am grateful for each passing beat, and joyfully anticipate the next beat.

As with money, it is not the volume reserved in the end; it is the value gained by the volume spent. I hope to look back and have the majority of my wealth and health spent wisely.

Something is nagging my mind, so I must add... spending habits reveal priorities. Be sure to note the expenditures and adjust the habits — if there is a conflict of interest.
