Underworld Evolution

A major let down when compared to the first one... and sadly, it was set up for another sequel. What was wrong? Several things.

The opening scene was full of very bad monster-effects and continued on for a very long time... it was also a flashback to a long, long time ago. Then we were dumped back into the present for 10 seconds only to be tossed back into another flashback; this time an overview of the first movie. So far — only 5 minutes into the movie — two strikes against the film... bad effects and dependency on the first film.

This film also suffered from the convenience factor — strike three. It is annoying when the main characters are saved from a random and non-plot building force. Characters should progress from elements that are already present, not magical availability of never-before-discovered whatever.

Three strikes... but more strikes to go. There was so much stuff in the story that never went anywhere and never added any value; there is a 5 minute montague of a window being painted... and I still can't figure out why. And lastly, why is the villain so easily defeated in the last 30 seconds... when almost nothing has changed?

I agree - I was pretty disappointed by this movie. But the saving grace is that the chick is hot. :)
