If you have spent a good amount of time behind a computer... you will know what I am talking about... and for the rest of you. The Undo Factor: n. Prolonged computer use such that causes one to think of keyboard shortcuts as a natural reaction to non-computer related events.
It was another exciting morning on the freeways... sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic. Nineteen miles at 60 mile per hour... that would put me to work in about 20 minutes. Nineteen miles at zero miles per hour; well, that get me to work in a hour. I cannot explain how the math work, but that is Orange County traffic.
My ride to work is guided by the radio every morning. Why? I have options. I could take the 91-East to the 57-South to the 5-South to the 55-South; or I could take the 91-West to the 5-South to the 55-South, or I could take the 91-East to the 55-South, or I could take the 91-East to the 57-South to the 22-East to the 55-South, or I could take three days to get to work and take surface streets (aka the non-freeway method).
So the radio... it picks the route I take to work. If there is an accident on the 57-South, I am not taking it... that simple. Usually. As you know, I share the road with three million other people trying to get to work as well... or school... or whereever. These other people enjoy running into one another... especially in the rain. They just love it. How do I know? The radio... there are at least five accidents every morning... and that is just on the roads that I use to get to work... actually, that is just on the sections of the roads that I use. That many... they have to like it... why else would they do it?
The route I chose today: 91-East to the 57-South to the 5-South to the 55-South. Two feet after I passed the on-ramp to the 22-East the guy on the radio announces a lovely three car pile-up of crash happy people on the 5-South... just before the 55-South exit. First think I think, ctrl+z back two feet and get on the 22-East. The "real" world working the way it does... I was now four feet passed the on-ramp... and ctrl+z does not work.
So it took me a hour to get to work. I saw three stalled cars, two accidents, and an ugly jogger with no shirt.
And I am insane because I still love Orange County.
